I participated in the FSGA Experts draft on Sirius/XM radio and was interviewed by Howard Bender from Fantasy Alarm on the radio at 6:30.

In every draft, everyone of us makes mistakes. The goal is to identify the mistakes and recalibrate for the next draft. As we say in business, fail fast, and move on.

Last night I was in the difficult position of drafting 17th out of 17 teams. This was my first time drafting in this league and I had not acclimated myself to how this draft flows. Being in the 17 hole, I could not afford to learn behavior’s on the fly, I should have done more research.

Two observations from the draft and things we can all learn from my mistakes.

  1. Every viable QB was draft by the 14th pick in the 8th round. This is a single QB league, not a superflex, but with 17 teams in the league, there were not enough viable QBs for every team to have 2, so QBs became a hot commodity.
  2. Every Kicker was drafted by round 16 and every defense was drafted by round 17.

Things to learn:

  1. Know your league and how people value certain positions in your draft.
  2. If you are drafting near the end of either round, you need to act earlier than you want to cover positions.
